The House of Hello is seeking female singers to participate in the workshop and performance of Lilith, a new experimental song cycle based around the Biblical/apocryphal Lilith mythos, being developed through Red Eye Theater's Works in Progress program. We are currently working specifically on a 15-minute piece of the show (two of seven songs) to be presented as part of the Works in Progress showcase, May 24-28, at Red Eye Theater.
We are casting three singers, preferably altos, though mezzos are also encouraged to audition. We are delighted to audition anyone who fits these basic requirements, though we are especially interested in hearing from performers of color and performers over 40. We welcome all female-identified performers, though you must have a strong alto/low mezzo range.
UPDATED: We will be holding our final two days of open auditions on Tuesday, April 18, and Wednesday, April 19, between 5-8pm; please contact us to secure your slot. Please provide a performance resume and be prepared to bring sheet music for a well-rehearsed song in your key. Callbacks will be held at a date TBD.
The showcase performances are May 24-28 in the evening. There are a couple of other required dates, though generally we try to be flexible; rehearsals will happen 1-2 times per week and will be determined by the full company to accommodate as many schedules as possible.
The music for this production is atypical, so strong musicality and foundational skills (including sightreading) are a plus. Familiarity with experimental non-narrative performance is, like, an extra plus. Operatic experience is the platonic ideal of "plus." To give you a sense of the style and difficulty level of the music, you can find a portion of the sheet music (vocal/piano only) attached.
It is our great hope that the singers we work with for this showcase performance will remain attached to the project, and continue to be a part of the development of the complete production, which we anticipate presenting in its full form in Jan/Feb of 2018.
We hope to hear from you soon!
