Lighting in the Round
Saturday, March 23, 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Arena lighting or lighting in the round takes the lighting designer’s job to a new level of complexity. With the audience all around the stage, every light may act as front, side, and back light and the number of fixtures needed for basic looks multiplies. With few places to dump extra light, control of every beam is paramount and compromises abound. This discussion of arena lighting will cover important questions for the arena Lighting Designer to ask their director, lighting formulas developed and refined at TRP to simplify your area lighting, some creative ideas for using a stage floor as your cyc, and plenty of time for questions and discussion. We’ll take a look at examples of these elements using the design of Little Women and participants will have a chance to move around the arena seating to demonstrate how one system looks from many angles. This workshop is free but registration is limited; to enroll CLICK HERE.
